Gabrielle Frattini

Mental Health Therapist

Children, Youth, Parents and Families.

Parenting and growing up both come with moments that can feel overwhelming, confusing, and difficult to navigate. When emotions run high, behaviour becomes challenging, or communication starts to break down, it can be hard to know what your child needs or how best to respond. I believe that all behaviour is communication, and that understanding what is happening beneath the surface can create opportunities for greater connection, regulation, and change.

Children and youth do not always have the words to explain what they are experiencing. At the same time, parents and caregivers are often trying to support their children while managing their own emotions, stress, and responsibilities. I work alongside children, youth, parents, and families to better understand these experiences and develop healthier ways of communicating, connecting, and responding to one another.

Using a strengths-based and collaborative approach, I help families explore the relationship between thoughts, feelings, behaviours, and relationships. My work draws from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy, Attachment Theory, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), and Polyvagal Theory. Together, we may focus on emotional regulation, communication, parent-child relationships, rupture and repair, and practical strategies that support greater confidence and connection within the family.

A strong therapeutic relationship is central to my practice. I strive to create a warm, welcoming, and non-judgmental environment where children, youth, and caregivers feel comfortable being themselves, talking openly about their experiences, and working toward meaningful change.

  • Currently completing a Master of Social Work at the University of Calgary.

  • Graduate Certificate in Advanced Social Work Practice.

  • Graduate Certificate in Clinical Social Work with Individuals, Families, and Groups.

  • More than 10 years of experience working with children, youth, and families in school-based settings.

  • Experience supporting children, youth, and families with anxiety, depression, low mood, trauma, emotional regulation, parenting concerns, behavioural challenges, and relationship difficulties.

Beyond the Professional Realm

I find comfort in routine and organization. Balancing work, family life, and graduate studies has taught me the value of having dependable routines to return to when life gets a little chaotic.

I start my weekday mornings with strength training and am a firm believer in having a good meal plan to get through the week. You will rarely find me with a coffee in hand, as I cannot tolerate caffeinated or sweetened drinks. Instead, you will usually see me starting the morning with hot water and lemon in a seasonal mug or enjoying a cold Bubly in the afternoon.

Invitation to Change

When your child is struggling, it can be easy to wonder whether you are doing enough, whether you are responding the right way, or whether things will get better. You do not need to have all the answers before reaching out for support.

My goal is to help children, youth, and caregivers better understand what is happening beneath the behaviour, strengthen emotional regulation, improve communication, and build healthier, more responsive relationships. Rather than focusing only on the problem, we will also identify the strengths already present within your child and family and build from there.

Whether your family is navigating anxiety, low mood, trauma, emotional dysregulation, behavioural challenges, parenting stress, or difficulties within the parent-child relationship, support can provide the space to slow things down, understand one another differently, and create meaningful change.

If you are wondering whether counselling may be the right fit for your child or family, I invite you to take the first step and explore whether working together feels right.
